Summer is here, and people and their pets will be spending a lot of time together outside enjoying the sunshine. If you are an animal lover, Cobb County is hosting an array of events throughout the summer to help animals in need.
The Cobb County Animal Control Shelter is hosting its spring Adopt-a-Thon Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the shelter, 1060 Al Bishop Drive, in Marietta. Rain or shine, come out and adopt your new best friend! They will have available animals at reduced rates in need of good homes. If you aren’t ready to adopt a pet just yet, bring an unopened cat or dog food donation to help an animal in need. The event features local vendors, food, raffle prizes and a demonstration by the Cobb County Police K-9 unit. For more information, contact Billy Mayfield at 770-590-5614.
The shelter will also be hosting its second annual Art, Barks and Purrs event on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The event will feature animal related crafts made by local vendors. Unopened cat or dog food donations will be accepted. The event will also take place at the shelter, 1060 Al Bishop Drive, in Marietta.
If you are a dachshund owner or lover, come out to the Georgia Dachshund Races June 22-23. The annual event supports the DREAM Dachshund Rescue, and the winners will be invited to race for the National Dachshund Races Championship. Tickets cost $5 at the door, and art/vendor booths are available. Visit http://www.georgiadachshundraces.com/ for more information.
